I was putting the sump plug back in the gearbox this evening (I had drained the oil whilst sorting out an oil leak) and spotted something shiney just inside the gearbox casing. A couple of minutes with a magnet and a pair of pliers extracted the following bits of metal that were floating around.

Needless to say this is not a good thing, and it's an engine-out job to fix it before the Brands Hatch race this weekend. Frown

Not being the technical sort Matt, what is(was) it ?
Matt   |04-09-2007 16:39:16
We still don't know. It looks like it's a bit of the inner race from the idler
gear bearing, but that's been pulled apart now and both idler bearings are fully
intact. So we're a bit stumped. The gearbox itself is apparently all fine too,
nothing falling apart or missing, and it rotates smoothly and engages all gears.
So we have the choice of chalking it up as "wierd shit" or borrowing a
spare gearbox from one of the other racers then stripping my 'box when we have a
little more time.

Bummer, well at least the box etc still works fine for now, that's a good
thing.[smiley=think]

Hi matt that type of cage is also on the bearings on the layshaft there is a
large bearing at one end and one possibly two the other, hope this may help the
"X" files [smiley=happy]
