![]() Close racing in the Mighty Minis championship The cars are based on 1275cc single-point injection Mini Coopers. Modifications are restricted with most of them centering around essential safety equipment, and mild suspension tweaks. The only power plant modifications that are allowed are a performance exhaust system, a K&N air filter element, and a change to the final drive ratio in the gearbox to give better acceleration. All cars have to be road legal, so you can even drive your race car to the track if you so wish. A competitve car can be bought or built for around £4000, and a seasons racing will typically set you back about the same again. The championship is contested between March and October, over a dozen or so rounds at a variety of circuits throughout the UK, with the odd hop over the channel to race in northern France. Grids are usually 20+ cars with the entire field lapping within 3 or 4 seconds of each other.
