Mounting drivers seat Print E-mail

Mounting a seat in a Mighty Mini when you're large (I'm 6' 7" and reasonably wide too) can be a bit of a nightmare to say the least, particularly if you're safety-conscious and want to use a modern "wrap-around" seat. Very tall drivers usually want to mount the seat behind the cross-member, pretty much on the floor. This gives them plenty of headroom and legroom, and keeps the drivers weight as low as possible, but often leaves you with the controls somewhat offset from the seat (as the seat ends up further outboard than usual) and with the seat very close to the B-pillar which isn't a nice place to be if you have a crash. As you move the seat further inboard it starts to climb up the exhaust tunnel which makes it harder to mount. One approach is to use a conventional side mount on the sill of the seat, and fabricate a custom mount for the exhaust tunnel side. This probably gives the best compromise for the driver but might mean you can't fit a passenger seat due to lack of space, especially if you're using a wide/XL size seat.
